MID-WEEK BEAUTY LESSON FROM SALON MARIO RUSSO FEATURING ELLE PROULX

EMBRACE YOUR NATURAL TEXTURE!

The first step to taking advantage of your hair’s natural texture is to make sure you’re using the right shampoo and conditioner. This will ensure that you’re getting the right amount of moisture vs. protein. People often make the mistake of using shampoos and conditioners that are labeled “reparative,” which may be more packed with protein than moisture, and can leave your hair feeling more brittle and dry. Properly hydrated hair is the key to handling those humid months ahead.

The next step is to work a medium-hold gel or curl cream like Curl by Definition by Oribe evenly throughout your hair. Then, twist small sections of your hair into spirals. This will help the curls form and clump together, and will reduce the amount of frizz.

From here you can either diffuse the hair on a low setting or just let your hair air-dry. If you’re letting it air-dry, it may feel flat at first, but as it dries the hair will start to expand. When your hair is fully dry, shake it up by tilting your head to the side and breaking the curl up with your hands. Or, try tipping your head upside down, shaking your hair up this way. For a more polished effect, try curling some pieces with either a large barrel curling iron or a beveled edge flat iron once the hair is completely dry.

Finally, use a light hairspray or shine-enhancing spray to help to hold the style all day in all types of weather!
